I've Got 99 Problems

Can you hear that sound? It's the sound of me breathing a sigh of relief.

We have had a couple of weeks worth of rather annoying, but very first world problems, the largest of which has been a broken air conditioner. On the morning of our second day without it, I woke to see that the thermostat in the house was only reading 79 Fahrenheit and I started to think how wasteful we've been to use so much energy to cool this place when it really wasn't unpleasant at all. On day five of the second consecutive air conditioning fail, the thermostat read 88, there wasn't a breeze to be found, and my poor girl's hair was dripping with sweat. My patience was gone. I guess I'm not as crunchy as I'd like to be.

Finally, it seems that the air is really fixed, which means I may actually have it in me to clean this cluttered house tomorrow and all will once again be well with our little world. The thing with these problems, really quite laughable in comparison to the much larger issues many people face on a regular basis, is that they remind me of how good we have it in the grander scheme of things. If my biggest problem is a broken air conditioner, I certainly have a lot to be thankful for.

And I am thankful.

To escape the heat in the house, we were able to spend the weekend in a hotel downtown, courtesy of our generous landlords. Here are a few pictures from those adventures.

The staircase in our hotel was toddler heaven.
Fun fact: this hotel is where we lived when the daddy and I
got married and when the above toddler was, uh, conceived.

How was your weekend? Has anything happened lately to remind you how good you've got it? Are you dealing with any first world problems of your own? Tell me all about it!

  2. What wonderful landlords you guys have!  Looks like you guys had a pretty fun weekend though.
That being said having no air conditioner during the summer is not a frivolous problem.  Our modern homes are just not equipped or built to handle summer heat without air conditioning, it seems ever summer you will hear at least one news report of someone actually dying during a heat wave and many being hospitalized from living in newer homes that do not have a working cooling system.
*Note to self, must find and try guava beer...

  3. If you find a bottled guava beer, you'll have to let me know! This one was a locally brewed, never bottled, single batch and I'm sure it will run out soon.

No air conditioner can definitely be a very bad thing in modern homes! Fortunately, there's really no such thing as heat waves around here - at a mere 14 degrees north of the equator there is little temperature fluctuation throughout the year. We have a few friends who live without AC all the time, but most of them live in breezy areas and have good air flow :)

  4. aww bummer that sounded supper yummy : )
ahhh I see.  I can understand that even where I live it is not so bad during the summer if you live in the shaded valleys like the home I grew up in.  I did not have a air conditioner until I was an adult myself.  I should have thought more about where you live. lol  Still, no air conditioner is a huge bummer.  Even if only for a little while. : )

  5. Maybe you can convince your hus to start home brewing! ;)

Also, I definitely would not have expected you to be familiar with the specifics of our local weather patterns!
