Tomorrow, my girl will be fourteen months old. One year ago today, she looked like this:
Today, she looks like this
Can you believe it!?
It seems that every day this week she has shown off a new skill, and most all of them have been things I've had to warn the daddy about. "She can climb onto her chairs now, but she likes to stand on them, so look out." "She can open the kitchen drawers now, honey." It is becoming more and more important that I keep a watchful eye at all times, because Annabelle's zest for adventure only gets stronger by the day.
She is able to communicate so much through sign language now, and is trying to say words all the time. Her bestie has taught her to say, "car" and she does so quite clearly, especially after today when he came over and brought cars with him. When Annabelle walks into a room or sees someone around whom she feels comfortable, she lets out a high pitched and enthusiastic, "he-ey!" She gives us hugs - something that makes her daddy incredibly happy, and she will even hold hands while out for a walk. She grabbed bestie's hand without prompting earlier today, and I immediately became a pile of mush.

Of late, the girl is very interesting in the bodies of others. While bathing, she now spends less time putting soap on herself and puts it on the hand, arm, or whatever she can reach, of the parent who is overseeing her bath. At mealtime, if there is a body part in reach, she wants to drop food on it. Yesterday, that meant dropping food into the top of my blouse at Garden Day and today it meant handfuls of dal on her daddy's hand. I'm not quite sure what to make of this game, but I trust that eventually it will lose its appeal.
All of that said, I ought to go to bed so that I'm ready when Annabelle displays her newest daredevil skill tomorrow. What have your children been up to lately? Do they do dangerous things like stand on chairs and shelves, too? Do you know how long the putting food on other people stage lasts? Fill me in!

Little Man also loves to stand on everything. He climbs everything in reach or puts boxes near furniture that is not. His favorite game is 'where is so-in-so's belly button?' It is cute but makes diaper changes challenging.
ReplyDeleteI haven't come across the putting food on other people phenomena before but it is an interesting one! The dangerous climbing habit is with you for a while I am afraid. I remember hearing Abi talking to herself in another room, when she was about 15 months old. I wasn't really paying much attention as she was a real old chatterbox until she said, "hmmmm, how do I get down from her now?". I couldn't think what she was up to and went in to find her stading on top top of the piano! Johnny could climb before he coulld walk. I found him hanging at my head height from a bookcase when he was about 9 months old. Don't worry, you'll get used to the adrenaline rush!
ReplyDeleteOh, so sweet!! I love her necklace, is that amber? Fun times with your little dare devil. Ours was pretty mild, but lately (almost 4 years old) she's getting kind of climbie-er. Daddy is so much better with it. I tend to over-gasp. Enjoy her every minute!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you've got your hands full (of soap and food!).
ReplyDeleteMy daughter is also changing and learning new skills at a dizzying rate. It's amazing how
fast they change!
Annabelle does not have a bit of patience for diaper changes! I totally hear you on that one.
ReplyDeleteShe really has always been advanced when it comes to language hasn't she? I'm amazed that she could string together so many words into a coherent sentence at such a young age!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Her necklace is indeed amber :)
ReplyDeleteWow they change so fast!! So funny, just a few minutes ago my 8 y.o. son was sitting on the counter waiting for the toaster to pop. And I have found my 6 y.o daughter standing on her bookshelf to reach on top of her closet :).
ReplyDeleteI gave you some blog love today, hope you stop by to see :).
She is so cute! Amazing how they grow up so quickly. You probably get asked this a lot but are you going to have any more kids? BTW, I started a new link up for sharing healthy ideas, suggestions, going "green" tips, etc. and I hope you'll join me next Wednesday! (Healthy 2day Wednesdays) Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Rachel! I do want another child. We hope to add to our family in another year or two!
ReplyDeleteMy Wednesdays are dedicated to chronicling the latest with my girl, but I love your link up idea! I'm looking forward to reading some of your tips. If I ever find a way to weave in something relevant, I'll see about joining in, too :)
